Teen Boy

I'm totally monopolizing this blog.  Sorry, just have had lots of time this month to study zbrush for FUN.  Finally brought all the different render passes into Photoshop for this new character.  I also found a good hair tutorial in last month's issue of 3D Artist, so this hair is a bit more successful than my last attempt at fibermesh.  I still need to try adding a zipper, and maybe a logo on his tee shirt ~Mo

  1. What the holy anchovy! Thanks for posting, Mo, your designs so far only make me want to do better! you know what I like of them? they have attitude, they have character. That's what I look to do with my stuff, not just a sculpt but something that is saying "hey! I'm here and I've personality" this is really good. The folds, the painting, the face (again, stylized but perfectly made, love stylized) and the hair is just getting better and better. I need to try fibermesh but I think that's for Zbrush 4.4 or some bis? I'm still at 4.2! or 4.1... something =p

Don't worry about posting. Hell, I'd like people to post daily! to just post to their hearts content. That's why we made Zketch! to have fun and just sculpt for the sake of it and make friends with other artists who also feel the same way!

  2. Wow, thanks Kay! Are you going to upgrade your zbrush? There are some really great improvements, the new zremesher is amazing. The more I learn -- the more I can appreciate the thought Pixologic has put/is putting into getting "everything" into this software, yet keeping it pretty intuitive. I've never seen a software where the "alt" key works so consistently to do the opposite of whatever you were doing before you pressed it.

Re character -- that's the KEY to illustration of any kind. I remember when I first started realizing I was going to have to go beyond drawing the figure and tackle full-blown scenes if I wanted to illustrate. It was overwhelming until I realized that each thing you draw, whether it's a wristwatch, a tree, a person or a wall -- should all have a "history." Who has sat in that chair? Did they put their feet on the rungs? Was it new in Grandfather's day? Repainted? Someone too heavy has been sitting on it?
