Haven't had a chance to mess with zbrush in like a week, tonsillitis was to busy kicking my butt, but anywho I got back into zbrush today with a quick warm up before work.

45 minute sculpt from zsphere. The theme was "Your favorite villain". I get all these themes through facebook on a group called daily spitsculpt, I highly recommend to anyone who loves sculpting, if anyone needs a link let me know.

Kay is Aliiiiveeee!

Barely survived the holidays. I've been away a little bit, but will continue to post stuff here soon enough. I'm still going to post my christmas character and later on the before and after one. In fact, thanks to Mo's video, the one concept for the christmas one can look even better!

I hope you guys had some great holidays and had amazing meals! I can only hope cause if you had dined in my house I would know for sure! =p cause I cooked it all. I'm a great cook. And artist. =p

Hair vid for Kay

How I do hair

APPEND a polymesh sphere -- and dynamesh it.
move it roughly into shape using Move brush.
Then using mostly the ClayBuildup and Dam_Standard brushes, draw "locks" of hair.
Use CurveTube and SnakeHook bushes to add wisps and curls.  Delete curves and use Move brush to move unmasked curls into place.

Some TLC needed with ClayBuildup and Pinch brushes after this to refine, but I hope you get the picture. :)

Baby Terrafin

Hey guys, its my first time posting here... So hopefully I do it right.  I'll start posting some of the recent work I've been doing at the studio (That's approved of course...) and personal work on here!  d('.'d)

This is a baby terrafin from Skylander's Swap Force.  I don't normally do characters, but due to certain complications and opportunities, I took a swing at it!  Here's the Zbrush model along with poly paint, and render!  :D

I went TB on this! It's a WIP (and I mean it)

I'm working on a piece for my brother as a Christmas surprise. Why am I posting a surprise? Cause he doesn't visit my blog! so I've nothing to worry about. If you're wondering, he knows of it. Anyway! I went Tim Burton on this, which means it was difficult to work it to be simple enough to work. The body needed more work than it appears, and it's a "WIP" because I need to go back and sculpt the hair properly (or do whatever I call sculpting when it comes to hair) and do crosshatching in lots of places to get it more to style.

Planar Head Study 2

So i managed to add in the asymmetrical detailed design in the planar head study and worked around the proportions. Calling it done for now.

Hi Everyone! :)

My name is Travis Ngov and i'm a current (soon to graduate) student. I'm one of Jim's current students as he told me about the blog and invited me. Unfortunately i haven't been able to post any images of my zbrush work so far but i decided to start my first post with a head study! The work i've seen here are all phenomenal and i look forward to seeing more from everyone else :D

Stink Eye

Sketchin . . .

Kerunno Goes Full Kaiju

Remeeeeember when I sculpted a Kaiju head? well, I decided to finish that with a body today!. I used some reference from a concept art from a card game and some Slattern reference from Pacific Rim itself to get somewhere. The tails should be longer and more whip like, but I just went for a claw like formation with an outer shell.

New Club!

EDIT: toned down metal spec, added spec to blood and wood. and added rim light.
new

old

I made an octopus alien because IDON'TKNOW!

I wanted to make something quick and from scratch, much like the first sketch I made when I started Zketch. Few minutes, random skin (zoom it, it's kinda nice) and no reference at all, just whatever came up by using the move tool and pushing stuff around til... I got this.

Sunday, December 8, 2013

1st: wanted to mess around with marmoset toolbag 2 since it just released and its awesome!. here is a club that was part of an art test i took and i wanted to throw it into marmoset and just have fun!

2nd: since the club was made in less than an hour for the test, and since it was a small part of the scene i decided to take it further and change up obvious silhouette blandness! so im touching up the sculpt and going to re texture and all that good stuff

=D

Hi. Another 45 minute warm up sculpt. The theme was rib cage. can never pass up a chance to practice anatomy.

Realistic Donkus

Or at least an attempt at a realistic donkus. I mean sure, I probably never will be happy with my level of skills, and also I could probably get better results with more than 361k polys, and I bet if I add more than 2-3 hours into something else I could MAYBE do better, but ... I forgot what I was going to say =D hi.

Sunday, December 1, 2013

Did another spitsculpt for warm up before getting into work. Today's theme was "mario". 45 minute sculpt and about 10-15 minutes polypainting and doing the wario logo in photoshop.

Old Sorceress

An old sorceress or witch. I wanted to do something very different, but I realized two things: I somehow can't make beautiful girl faces on cue regardless of what I've posted before, and that I suck so much at sculpting hair and I've no idea how to fix either. People tell me sculpt more of those, but if I suck now and I sculpt more I'll only suck the same amount cause I'd be doing the same! =p
Anyway!

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Another quick 45 minute sculpt, the theme was "fat animals". Did this on my sisters chubby dachshund/mix dog. If anyone has seen the tom and jerry movie, you will be able to see where the inspiration of the skateboard came from.

Zketch Projects! (And Others)

I've been working on a lot of stuff lately. I need to work more on my portfolio and I have things to do in ... everything life. I have like 20 days to do online Traffic School and I haven't yet! =p

Anyway, Portfolio aside for Zketch I've 2 big projects planned for the month of December and I hope anyone who still likes to post here a little would join me!

The first event has a time frame of Dec 1-15, which is the time where I'll make and post my before and after Zketch. For this one, we are to take an old Zbrush project of our starting days or a very old concept that simply... is not to our current level of skills. Then, we'll update it in any way we want as long as we keep the message of what the first one was to begin with. To make sure the humiliation is complete, we'll post them in a side by side image where we'll post the old one to the left and the new sketch to the right!

The second one will be a Christmas Zketch. This will be Dec 16-31, and will be the toughest cause the holiday parties fall in those days, but I don't know about you guys but dec 26-30 are pretty slow, and every day before the 25th are as well, so I think there's time for a Christmas Zketch! for this one, you represent Halloween in any way you want or recreate a Christmas image that you like a lot regardless of what it is. Santa with a gas mask and a machine gun? sure. Anime Santa? go for it. Christmas - Halloween blend? As long as you don't violate any copyright laws, do it!

Kay out! =p

Lost Dwarf

"Gah! curse ye squidly thingles! lost I be in this sea of trees. Could'a be drinking on te mugely tasty of eh' good beer! had me come 'ere all fer not a solid ner' shiny coin! waste of me time! blast it te hell!"

Guess who's finger is all better now? I'm actually having issues getting back to using it? I'm so used to things now with my other fingers on the right hand or my left hand-- cept for brushing my teeth. I've no earthly business brushing my teeth with my left hand. Anyway! here's a dwarf.

My finger...

Still hurts. I should be fine soon, though... hopefully!

I'm working on my new demo reel, but I've at least 3 big, non sketches, Zketch projects planned before the end of the year. One of them would be the before and after and the other a christmas one. Also something else I'd take more time than a regular sketch.

I know there's few people reading this but hey! it's a blog. It will stay here for people to read it one day =p

Friday, November 15, 2013

here is a quick sketch.

The Tick

Cut my hand really bad today... it hurts to play games or sculpt anything! waaaahmbulance required. So I'm posting an old sketch of the controversial super hero The Tick! =p

It's really not polished and it's 6-8 months old. I see a lot of errors. I spent like an hour total on it too.

Skulltula

Another 45 minute quick sculpt I did today. The theme was "Zelda". Tried to keep to the original but make it a little more realistic, well within the time constraint.

"classy otter"

I have been drawing a lot more and haven't done much sculpting so I wanted to do something quick. A topic from a speed sculpt site. 45 min speed sculpt using today's theme of a classy otter. 45 minutes goes by really quick. lol

Before and After Challenge?

I know there's like a really few people posting and commenting now, but have any of you seen those "draw this again" challenge thing? Where they pick a really old drawing they did back in the days and then improve it with their current skills.

Is that something that would be fun to do? or are we still not at level of doing such a thing? I mean, I can go as far as 3 years... that's not a lot for this sort of challenge right? =p

Such a girl . . .

Feeling a little girly posting these kiddies all the time.  Here's the one I did today, (actually, the head was done a while ago, so I added hair and a torso.  This is my most "tucked in" pose so far -- using polygroups so I could transpose and then continue sculpting.  Also, having fun with the fibermesh. ~Mo

Saturday, November 9, 2013

I still got it, I think.

Just to show that I think I still have 'dem prop modeling skills =p

Scooby

I asked a friend what I should make and they said Scooby Doo.

Thursday, November 7, 2013

That back pain?

You better get it checked. It might be a demon growing out of your spine and using your flabby, dead remains as tiny legs.

Smiley McDerpalot

I think I spent maybe an hour and a half on this one

Wednesday, November 6, 2013

fun with the new giger brush that I made... Im not sure how long this took to make, it was 2 songs on pandora.

Ghoul

Some Ghoul. I wanted to make it more dynamic, but couldn't. I had a totally different idea in my head when I started and settled for this, but I shall try again! =p

ketchin them Z's

Sunday, November 3, 2013

This is an oldie, I think this is almost exactly 5 years old, but I think a lot of you have never seen it, well those of you that dont go to Ai. I have been crazy busy lately, and the stuff I am doing I cant show. so I thought I would post this.

Happy Halloween!

From Zketch! Happy Halloween! and here's the little sweets witch that steals kid's candy... and their souls too! A little inspired by Souleater. Isn't she cute?

Laughing Donkus

Something random for today. I'm working on my Halloween sketch and I just played around with things today and came up with a happy donkus. He's happy, but I think I'll keep working on it to make it look kinda crazy and happy =O

Teen Boy

I'm totally monopolizing this blog.  Sorry, just have had lots of time this month to study zbrush for FUN.  Finally brought all the different render passes into Photoshop for this new character.  I also found a good hair tutorial in last month's issue of 3D Artist, so this hair is a bit more successful than my last attempt at fibermesh.  I still need to try adding a zipper, and maybe a logo on his tee shirt ~Mo

90 minute sketches

A few short sculpts (60 and 90 minutes) -- just having too much fun with this software.  After a quick sculpt I really feel like I've been working with clay -- but nothing to clean up.  ~Mo

Shantae!

So on top I have the model of Shantae, and on the bottom I have the first attempt/experiment/try at making it look like a drawing! it needs tweaks I know, I just did a quick 5 minutes thing, but I'll work on it later and look around for more ideas to make my project come through!
