Rock Study

Hey Guys! Hope everyone had a happy new year.  I made this rock study yesterday after being inspired by some textures I found on Pinterest. The texture maps and the geometry tile in the x and y directions. Enjoy!

  1. I hope you had a happy new year too! and YIKES! this looks fantastic! makes me want to be good at environment modeling!-- but I suck at lights so that would never work.

It looks... the word I'm looking for is exquisite. The texture and normal are crisp and all the maps combined just look sublime. The composite texture at the end is alluring!

  4. Thanks, man. :) I rendered this in Marmoset. The DX11 stuff is stupid easy to set up and the image based lighting kicks the crap out of UDK (IMO) The basic technique i used for making the zbrush sculpts for this guys i learned from a friend at BioWare. He was an environment artist by title but really wanted to do character stuff. You should try doing some of these tiling textures with me. :)

  5. definitely! this really looks fun. Id need to get marmoset but Ive been meaning to get it anyway! I have to grow up and start rending for real =p. Whoever taught you this technique is wicked! cause those tiles have no earthly business being tileable and bumping in that way! wicked cool that is =p
